We are now faced with a very important problem, that is, the rapid increasing pres sure of population on land, or rather, on land resources. Most people consider it a serious problem because land resources are limited. However, we need not to be pessimistic about it.
Although land has long been the main source for our food supply, it is not the only one. We have vast sea areas in the world waiting to be cultivated and developed. Fish farming is playing a more and more important role in providing us with food. In the fu ture we can sow fish and plants in the sea and harvest them.
Another thing we can do is to develop new strains. Many scientists have achieved good resuhs in this field. For examaple, a kind of new strain of com invented by Ameri can scientists has already produced more grain and mused an enormous world increase in food production. It is certain that further research work should be done to produce higher yield.
